Void Space

The new centre Casa Mediterráneo aims to become a meeting place for the celebration of the richness and diversity of Mediterranean culture.

To rehabilitate this building means to rediscover its original public character as a train station.

The open space of the platforms is understood as the heart of the building, its main feature. Any solution that invades this void has been discarded.

 

Permeability 

The new centre is permeable and accessible from all facades. It filters the light and fosters the views towards the park and the city.

It allows to be traversed as part of the East-West pedestrian green axis (Parque Mediterráneo).

 

Piano Terra

To maintain the volume of the central void, the multifunctional auditorium is partially located under the old platforms. 

As they descend, spectators will feel the mass of the piano terra under their feet. 

This excavated solid made of sandstone that hosts the arts revisits classic Mediterranean architectural concepts.
